There will be an adjournment debate discussing support for crafts this Thursday at 6pm (latest) though it could start earlier. One of the firms that will be specifically mentioned is a Sheffield cutlery firm Kutrite see here http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70130&highlight=kutrite
You can apparently watch it live on the parliament channel - if you have Sky or Freesat!

The Heritage Crafts Association has been campaigning for greater support for crafts and Tom Levitt who has initiated the debate has been supportive.

If you would like to see more government support for crafts then sign up as a supporter here www.heritagecrafts.org.uk or joint the facegroup page here http://www.facebook.com/pages/Heritage-Crafts-Association/76521534812?ref=mf

One of the reasons for lack of support has been the lack of any organisation to act as a voice for all the crafts and that is changing as more and more people sign up, and it's free.:)

And here is a transcript of the discussion. I happened to be in London anyway for another meeting so was able to watch from the visitors gallery, an interesting experience that I would recommend. Afterwards I met with Tom Levitt and Barbara Follett and I hope it will be the start of a dialog which will ensure traditional crafts find their way on to government's agenda and eventually receive the same support as contemporary crafts or heritage buildings.
