Hi,
Does anyone here use hammocks made of cord instead of the usual nylony stuff?
I used to do a lot of stuff with string & recon I could get a decent hammock together in a couple of hours, is there a reason why they are not commonly used for bushcraft?
thanks,
John.:D

I used one - but only once.
My experience went like this:

Found suitable trees,
Slung hammock between the trees,
Sat on it to check tautness.
Adjusted it,
Checked tautness again,
Lay on hammoick,

And then stayed there until someone stopped laughing long enough to unhook my clothes and kit from the hammock.

I also suspect that I'd have woken up looking like 'Hell Raiser' too!

ok, that doesn't sound very posotive.
Put a roll mat in the bottom & it could solve both problems?
Think how long a paracord hammock could last.
I may try making one, could be fun even if not much use.

I must admit that I use one regularly

To hang beside my proper hammock to keep my rucksack in
Close enough to reach while in bed, under the same tarp and off the floor!

I make my own nets for trapping and tried using a large one as a hammock for a full night. It was an experience I will not try again. It took about 3 days for the criss/cross pattern to dissapear from my back. Instead I now sleep on a nylon hammock and use a small net hammock to keep my pack off the ground.
