Anyone know how this is done? I've heard of setting up a fire pit with stakes and a stretched leather over the top to take water etc, but has anyone actually done it?

Nope - but I have boiled water in a paper bag ...so leather should be easy! :)
Chose your leather carefully as the tanning process materials may affect teaste etc...:(

Actually they do.
Any of the body pouches will do, but it's better to sew a skin bag.
You have to watch though, the leather can 'cook' hard, like the cuire boille that we make using the hot beeswax, and if it mis-shapes it can be blooming awkward to get your food out

cheers,
M
