Got my Trail Hawk yesterday. What at first appears to be a cheap and poorly finished tool soon turns into a good bit of kit. Did the usual mods like cleaning the paint off the head and a quick hone on the stone and shortening the handle by a couple of inches to make it feel better and for storage. Oiled the handle and head, now just need a cover for the head.

I want to carry it in two pieces for safety and convenience and also a better fit in the pack. Still a couple of bits I want to do to personalize it but in all I'm highly impressed with the usefulness and ease of use. Would recommend to anyone.

you pretty much need to for it to be useable.

If you just wanted to hack heads it would be fine, but for any real world use you need to sharpen it and get rid of the tacky coating and spend a little bit of time on the handle.

I'm still waiting on the rest of Martyn's thread
