I'm buying a new Paramo coat and I cannot get to a stockist to try one on. I've been thinking about coat sizing, they all seem to be measured at the chest but how does this account for different body shapes? For instance a broad person who's small around the chest, or an average sized person who's large around the chest. Obviously the answer would be to try the coat on but this is not always possible.

Second question, how do Paramo coats fit? I'm buying the Velez smock. My current coat is a now old Berghaus in size Large (42-44") and it fits me ok which is surprising as when I buy t-shirts or jumpers, I buy 2XL. I'm not sure whether to buy the Paramo in size Large (43") or size XL (46").

I know the best answer would be for me to try the coat on but I'm not about to make an 8 hour round trip to do so, even if I did have the time. So if anybody with a Paramo coat could tell me how theirs fit or if they wish they went bigger or smaller would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

That’s a tough one these days every size and make are different. My best advice phone the best stockist ask there advice but also ask about they returns policy buy the one you think will fit and try.
Just done the same with a berghaus fleece from go outdoors arrived today being a 47” chest and I am always in the middle of sizes.

Ok this is not a helpful answer but it is my experience. I went to a Paramo premium retailer who had a huge stock of sizes and models despite being small. The owner took his time to run trhough the options. I went in thinking I wanted a standard Velez or perhaps the mountain smock type (can't remember the model name). he got me to try a couple of sizes. I told me I was most likely an XL but to try a large bottom I was slim then. So I tried one of each model.

There were what paramo used to call regular fit and athletic fit. Ahtletic is for taller, slimmer people and regular was the old classic shape (what I used to call short, fat dogwalker sizing.. I ended up with the adventuree lite velez which is actually regular. AS was the standard velez I was thinking of. The high end mountain smock was athletic and at a push I would have got that.

In the end I found out the velez regular did not fit me. The adventure lite fitted me perfectly. Both pretty much the same size and shape when laid on top of each other. The difference was the lite velez was a perfect fit around the shoulders but the regular one simply did not fit. It is that weird with the fit of them. You can not go by size alone or supposed fit type. It is all about what actually fits when you try them on.

So unfortunatately nobody will give you the best answer only a best guess. Fit dimensiosn do not give you any info on actual shape and fit. I would expect that if your shoulders are borad but your chest is small. Then look to a size with a chest range starting at yuour chest size and going up from there or if your chest size is at the top of one go for the one above.

This is a guess because individual models do actually fit slightly different. I reckon an alta will fit you if the arms are long enough as I found that Alta 2 fitted my body in medium but short arms, it fitted my arms in XL but I could almost wrap it around me twice a good few years back!!

I wear an adventure lite velez a lot. It is baggy on me but the shoulders fit well and it is just about the right length if a little shorter than I would like. It iss good for walking and cycling in rain with waterproof trousers on though.

Thank you both, I ordered a Velez Evolution Hybrid Smock, which I believe are an athletic fit. I ordered in size XL. Hopefully it will fit but if not, I can always send it back.

It really does depend on fine details whether it fits velez standard felt tight about the shoulders and felt like that pulled up on the sleeves.

Send it back if it isn't right fit. For me fit was more important than model or allocated fit type. It's a wicking fabric so if the contract to your inner wicking layers isn't there then it doesn't work as well surely?
