Cleaning the lining of a Swanndri trapper hat

Despite it supposedly making me look like a angry duck I'm very fond of my old Swanndri hunter cap

but after 10 years or so the lining is rather grubby. It says dry clean only but I'm loathe to risk the noddy at the local dry cleaner ruining it so is there anything I can do at home that won't ruin the wool outer while the cotton or polly cotton lining is degreased? If push comes to shove ill try to gently wash the grubby bits with vanish and rinse cold.

I was told to use a soak in bog standard shampoo and cool water overnight and then a lot of cold rinsing and it's worked like a charm, all the grease has gone and although its not completely dry yet so far it's not lost shape or shrunk at all.
