cleaning contacts on a petzl headtorch

my trusty petzl is misbehaving a bit lately: the light is flickering and changing from very weak to normal strength. i'm sure it's not the batteries getting weak but rather a problem with the contacts. what would be a good substance to clean them?
i once tried electrical contact spray to get a mini maglite working again and it literally melted the plastic of the (already buggered; happened two times without any visible reason) socket- and i DEFINITELY do'nt want to melt my headtorch!

thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

if its battery contacts something slightly abrasive will do, one tip is a pencil erasor, takes the oxidisation and gunk right off.

To be honest, in my experience of petzls, it could well be the cable from the battery pack to the lamp which is breaking down internally. These can be replaced with a bit of time and igenuity. Of course, your petzle may not be a model with a remote battery box, so this info is irrelevant!

I also have a Petzl; it's a Tikka. I have the same problem and it's not the contacts. Does anyone know how the little fella comes apart as I think it's the switch and I'd like to have a go at cleaning that too.
