Just got this by e-mail from a friend.......and may god bless them ALL from every service and watch over them this Christmas and always wherever they are serving. British Forces....THE best in the world!!! ...............Please pass on to all your friends

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE,

IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE, MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY, WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,

AND TO SEE JUST WHO, IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,

NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,

ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES, OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,

A SOBER THOUGHT, CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,

I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE,

CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR, IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN DISORDER,

NOT HOW I PICTURED, A TRUE BRITISH SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO, OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?

CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALISED THE FAMILIES, THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,

OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS, WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,

AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE, A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM, EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,

BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER, HOW MANY LAY ALONE,

ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE, IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT, A TEAR TO MY EYE,

I DROPPED TO MY KNEES, AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED, AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,

"SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,

MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,

I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL,

AND WE BOTH SHIVERED, FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE, ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,

THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR, SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,

WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.

"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

This poem was written by a Peacekeeping soldier stationed overseas. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable

PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favour of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to all of the service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.

60 now !!......merry Christmas every body and may you all enjoy your safety and freedom next year.

Sorry, it's too mawkish for me, it might fare better on Facebook.
Seen the poem before, it has lots of lovely sentiment but what sort of reply are we supposed to give?

Sorry mate but I was given this on Facebook a couple of days ago so has been forwarded round most of the people I know....... and all the others I don't know who are my friends on Facebook!

However two things;

I'm perfectly with you on raising awareness, I'm in the army myself so I don't need too much encouragement! However you mustn't get all aggressive when people don't reply to your posts or more importantly, share your views. We can't expect people just to think like us however worthy we believe our cause, that's why we convince people to come round to our way of thinking, not bully them. It's called freedom and that's what we fight/fought for in the first place.

Secondly Southey's served also so I wouldn't get uppety at him because I'm sure he understands just as well as anyone the importance of your cause.

Oh and also the view count includes both members and "guests" so it may well have been seen by people who can't post but can send it off to lots of people so it may have been more effective than you thought, certainly this is the 4th or 5th time I've seen it in some form so don't worry, plenty of people do care :D

And after the excellent turn out at rem. parade this year I'd say public awareness is higher than it's been in years :D

all the best,
Will

Fair one Wilderbeast. Thanks for pointing those things out. I was having a bad day and another of our lads had died too. I've served too budd. 1980 - 86. I'd not seen this before. I don't do twitter or facebook etc. Why should anyone want to know I've just got out of the shower or had porridge for breakfast? :35: Anyway I suppose I thought it would be nice if folks just said they'll pass it on. Made me get a tear in my eye. Our lads are great and thank the good lord I only did NI and missed the Falklands. I met 2 young Royal Marine trainees near where I live. Had a chat with them and great young lads they were. I hope they stay safe when their time comes to go to that Afghanistan. Anyway peace to all this Christmas and may Everyone stay safe...........Best wishes

Some like myself , may have viewed it and then gone offline for a while to ponder the message....
Perhaps a response he might appreciate more than a kneejerk reposting?
