After much nagging from my son about my illegal opinel No7 I have done something about it.

Shortened the blade, removed the locking ring and tightened up the rivet, it is now legal and whilst it is stiff to open it does not close to easily.

While I was at it I had a go at a sheath as well.

I know it will never win any prizes but I have to say I am quite pleased with it, what do you think.

I don't know if you've seen opinel modifications before, but they're quite a lively pastime, especially over on British Blades.

Here's a link to one Edd-UK did. You might be interested in trying something similar with the butt of the handle.

I used a bench grinder, dipping in water frequently to save the temper.

It only needed about 5mm off to get it under 3 inches.
