Here's a few pics of a fire piston I made a few weeks back. I made it out of a piece of copper pipe, copper end cap, wooden dowel and some rubber o rings. The handle was a piece of old chair leg. Total cost was a fiver.

Thanks bud. I tried to make one all from wood but failed. I could always insert the copper pipe into some wood just to make it look like an all wood one. Could even carve a wood spirit into the plunger.

Nice work, does it work well?

I recently bought one, its taking a while to get used to it.

When I first made it, it worked first time every time but I damaged it a bit recently. A couple of days back I put a small dent in the wooden dowel, which allowed air to escape. I solved this by putting a small bit of cellotape around the dent. Now it takes three or four attempts. When I get time I will replace it with a new piece of dowel.
