cheap backup poncho

I use an ex-issue Dutch poncho and wouldn't part with it for anything else, but if I don't take it out when I'm walking the dogs I have a sheet of polythene about 1m x 0.75m folded in a back pocket.

I've got a Tenth Wonder poncho always in my pack; £19.99 from their site, weighs nothing and is durable, comfortable and not too noisy............even comes with a little stuff-sack, it packs down to the size of a large tin of petfood. I've had this for a year or so and it has had considerable use in the woods, still looks like new. I've used it a few times as a groundsheet and as an emergency tarp to eat under and it works a treat..........

Highly recommended!

"The Works" quite often have emergency poncho capes for a couple of £... If you like orange and yellow and that very strange smell of unfolded PVC you will be fine :lmao:

wondering if anyone can recommend a cheap backup poncho that I can throw in my bag just in case

I was looking at these from highlander

but I'm wondering if they are going to make me sound like a crip packet when I walk?

other options >£20 and packing real small would be good

It will sound like a crisp packet and start to delaminate before long, Ok in an emergency though as you can scrunch them down to next to nothing.

The tenth wonder one above makes sense. I got a dutch poncho that fits in its own pocket, not very very small though. The one I use the most is the genuine US army poncho. quiet, tough again a bit big for what you want. recommend though if you want a general use poncho in the future.

I have the TW poncho and it certainly packs small and isn't too 'crinkly'.

Bit small for a tarp but not bad in a pinch. My only concern is that the corner points are grommets not fabric tie outs and they tend to rip out ime.
