Oxfam is another one I avoid. I forget why now. But there must have a good reason when I made that decision. :D

The mountain rescue groups and the lifeboats, those too I give to. Not on any formal basis, but if presented with an appeal or spot the rattling can on a counter, I donate.

I think a lot of people are like that in their giving. It's not always formalised and it's often seasonal....the Poppy collections for instance, or the Christmas ones for homeless youths.

I do give to the SSPCA....who are you going to call if you find an injured animal or bird ? A deer on the road, hurt but still breathing is not uncommon, buzzard with a damaged wing ? round here the SSPCA (RSPCA further south) come out and deal, thankfully.

Personally I give to local mountain rescue and Bay Rescue.
As a Freemason I give to hundreds of mostly small charities around the country and the world.
Also recently been supporting The Rawthey Project in Sedbergh, which helps ex service personnel who have had issues with alcohol or substance abuse. They help their people get well and then get a job and somewhere to live. The people they support are the ones who fall through the net of other forces charities and they are still small.
The results are spectacular though. If you’re ex forces have a look at them.
I won’t give to any charity whose CEO earns over £100,000 as I think that is an obscene waste of donated money intended for the work of the organisation, not one employee’s pockets.

Horseguy; May I remind you that `Giving bad vibes` might be due to Autism or similar neurological condition?

But you are right, small local charities often need your help more than they do your money.

We have lots of ways to support the Scottish Crannog Centre and many of them do not involve money.

(But we like that too)
