Was up a bit north of where I live at the weekend and went birch burr hunting.

Found more chagga than burrs but eventually go a few. Left the chagga as I have a fair bit. I also found a tree with 3 bits on it and it's right at the roadside passed by thousands of tourists every day!!!

and the funny looking burrs on the birch tree

Anyone any idea about the burrs and the shape?

Thanks.

George (campsiteguy) knocks those off and carves them. The grain is wonderful :D he makes goblets and such like from them.
Absolutely beautiful :D

I don't know what they are, we call them tree warts

Cheers Mary.

Was wondering about a goblet but worried about the pith or if it's a true burr with no pith. Time will tell. I was going to split it and make a right and left cup.
