Thought I'd better get some practice in with the big weekend coming up...All I had to hand was a Cedar board and some hazel....Nice coal, but the Hazel punished the soft Cedar board....

Must be something great for a 'spot the differences'- bushcraft style puzzle as well...
That's at least 3 types of dust you've got there piled up
Black roles (like the ones I get often using willow on willow)
Dark brown dust
Light brown dust...
is that also your carpet smoking??
I bet it did. I have some western red ceder and its really soft.... easy to get a coal with but I end up having to making a new start and notch every time I use it.
