Calling it a festival is a bit grandiose in reality it's much nicer more like a village fete, bouncy castle, bottle stall, cooking demonstrations from the WI, artisan charcoal and a whiplash inducing zip line across the river. A place to promenade, meet friends or make new ones and cheer for those poor souls daft enough to be in the water.
Shanties were sung, the 'FiddleBox' duo were on form with a good tune or two as they wandered amongst the crowd and the local school kids eager to plug their musical production of Annie were belting out that song...
Set the wife up with her camera and within moments was commandeered by 'Spawn' for a better view of the world and a sulk after failing to secure a piece of cake from the old lady next to us despite his normal trick of rolling onto his back exuding cuteness.
The coracle race for the "King Of The River" title is a serious business with bragging rights and possibly beer at stake its surprising just how fast those little tubs can be made to move.
From a bushcraft perspective the fun races are also educational as you never know when you may need to build a boat or what you've got to make one. So it never hurts to pick up some design inspiration, the cardboard canoe race in particular normally plagued by tragic but hilarious sinkings actually had one entrant made it all the way across and back!
