I've been given some Canadian Cedar, I know its soft ( but smells great ), is there any way to 'toughen' it up to use as knife scales ? as the grain is beautiful.

I've got a couple of Cedarwood cigar boxes which must be 50yrs. old, and every time I open them I get a blast of "that smell"......................atb mac
