Had a wee weekend camping with old wounded knee (coln18), or as some of you like to call him 'gob .....' Why the name 'wounded knee', well he has recently had a cartilage operation on his knee! He was going a bit stir crazy sitting in the house so it didn't take much persuading to get him to go camping this weekend, sore knee or not.
Anyway here are some pics
My new set up DD tarp and Rab storm bivvy done the job a treat all weekend
OLD WOUNDED KNEE HIMSELF!
Decided to make some Amadou this weekend, so went looking for some horse's hoof fungus and found loads
Stripping the hard outer layer of the fungus.
The lighter coloured layer is the big that I was looking for but I had to get rid of all the rest of the dark section, which was a bit of a pain. Does anyone know of a quick way of doing this. I just cut it out with an axe and a knife.
After stripping all the dark layer out, leaving me with the lighter coloured layer, Colin made up some solution up from ash and charcoal from the fire and hot water, which we then dropped the amadou into and left for 15 hours.
After removing the amadou from the solution, rinsing it off and pounding it a few times - results above seems to have worked. Still drying out, still to pound again and to stretch over the next few days.
Colin made up a fire bow set but couldn't kneel down properly to use it so he tried a new technique - the lying down method and guess what?.....................................it didn't work!
Hope you enjoyed. Colin should have some more pics, but God knows how long that will take to put on..................
Cheers, Jason
