The second one on your link is £100, is it worth that much? I've not seen this book before what is so special about it?

Bill

The second one for £100 odd quid, happened to be on the same page that's all.

It is a good book and there's been lots said about it on this forum. It's out of print now and any books that are sought after and OOP can command high prices. There will always be someone willing to pay the high price. I bought this book 3 odd years ago for £7 quid second hand from Amazon. There are some great snippets in it and I do agree that it's one of the best books out there. You can look at it time and time again and not get bored, but £100 quid ??? :yikes: Probably not

Didn't realise the out of print factor. Thanks guys.

By the way a copy of Ray's survival handbook went on ebay for £20ish last week so maybe the £70 days are past.

If you want to buy the book to add to your collection, then I'd pay the price. But if you want to buy the book just for the information, you may not want to. Lots of great info in it but much of the same info can be found in other sources without a problem. There is some unique info in it though. You might want to check the library.

BTW, mine's a 1st Schocken edition, 1972, which I bought when it came out. For a whopping $3.95. :-)

For what it's worth, I've been looking for one of these for an age after having a copy on loan from someone else on BCUK. It has taken me several months but I landed a used copy for £13 and I'm waiting delivery as we speak. I lost out on a few opportunities along the way by limiting my bids to around £30.

It's a good book. Lots of stuff that's not in the Ray Mears books, written by a guy who gained considerable experience in and after WW2.

I'd strongly recommend it.

Coincidences etc.

Another one has just popped up on ebay in the USA. Paperback, good condition, USD 6 something at time of posting. Might be worth a look. Item number is 5136337619

Looking on Abebooks.co.uk there seem to be several versions all by the same author.

Australian Bushcraft, a Guide to Survival and Camping 1989
Bushcraft 1978
Bushcraft A Serious Guide to Survival and Camping 1974

Does anyone know what the differance is between them ?

were things added to make the newer versions or were things taken out to make the newer versions ?

I can't comment on all the ones listed but the copy I've read and the one I've bought were the hardback published by Shocken. This is has exactly the same contents as a series of several cheaper pamphlets published individually.

"Bushcraft" is also available in papaerback.

BTW - good luck outdoorgirl - hope you get it and hope you enjoy reading it.

Cheers,

I got the paperback version from Amazon's second hand book sellers a few months ago. Can't remember how much I paid but it was not more than £10. Still to read it though as I have been pretty busy lately. From a brief flick through it looks promising

I read it years ago and liked it very much. I've been watching for a copy for my library too but they are kinda pricey. I have been told that he's written 2 or 3 other books also but don't have anymore info about them.
