This is Pheasent berry, Leycesteria formosa. Cut it back late winter to about 20 cm and you will have a very vigorous new shrub. Its another shrub introduced by the Victorian plant hunters. The berrys taste of caramel, but I can't recommend for eating as they are listed as toxic, but I am still standing after tasting.
No worries redneck, I have it growing in a couple of my clients gardens, it has very distinctive downward facing flowers which forms a hood over the berries.
I'd been told it was Himalayan balsam, but I knew it wasn't that, Though since you ID'd it I've found it's also called Himalayan Honeysuckle, so the guy who told me what it was must have gotten them mixed up!
