I just got a length of ash out of a shopfitters skip and I thought I would have a go as well.
Could I have a copy of the plans please? (PM sent)

Looking forward to seeing photos of yours Jimbo.

It's a bit rough and ready, but tested it, and it works fine.

Hmmm!

As soon as I saw this, I thought of the carbon fibre tubing in different lengths and diameters which I'd seen. I'll pop along and take some measurements as I'd like to know it its feasible, price wise, to use CF to make one of these.

I made one ages ago for a laugh from copper tubing and T-pieces.

It kind of worked and the tension was good but I wasn't that happy with the joints and the general feel of it. I don't see why CF wouldn't work if you get it sitting snug.

Look forward to some piccies :)

Of of interest before I make one, does the cross bar sit in snug or is there to be a little bit of movement?

You can get 610mm blades from B&Q however they dont look like the bladeds above (I was disappointed) they have a different teeth pattern

I used a 24" bahco blade from B&Q. £3.80

They do two different bahco blades at 24", 1 tooth pattern for green wood and 1 tooth pattern for dry wood.

The wood was picked up from a local forest floor. The ropes are gardener twine. The two bolts to hold the bade were from my screw jars.

I cut the uprights at 12" and then the cross piece to fit, but approx 24". The winder was just another piece of the right sort of size.

When it's taken apart everything is 24" long and lays side by side. Just gotta make a small canvas bag for it so the blade doesn't rip up my other kit and bag.

And if anything breaks while i'm out in the woods it should be easy enough to make a replacement part from wood laying around.

So a really cheap project.
