Hi

Have a look at The British Bryological Society website, there's a wealth of info there. Also have a look at Summerfield books who sell most bryophyte related books. I'm afraid most of the more specialised books are quite expensive! The Moss Flora of Britain and Ireland by Smith and The Liverwort Flora by Patton are the standard texts in the UK. The recently published Mosses & Liverworts by Porley & Hodgetts is an excellent general intro to bryophytes.

What exam are you doing just out of interest?

I still use Philips: Grasses, Ferns, Mosses and Lichens [Pan. 1980. ISBN 0330259598]

Used it in my dissertation [lichens as air quality indicators] and you have the added bonus of all the other bits too.
