brace and bit drills

I was given a load...I have lots more! Since I don't have a brace and bit...Should I be looking for one?

if they are still sharp and have threaded tips, you can shorten the shank and fit a t-handle to make a hand auger. i've got a few in the man shed ive been meaning to do this to for ages

Yup, they are dirt cheap and you see two or three on just about every carboot sale. I wouldn't get the first one you see as a minter is bound to be around the corner, they really are that plentifully available. I stopped myself at two, a modern one with plastic fittings and a old one with wooden that just needed some surface rust polishing off.

If the threades starter part is good you can usually sharpen them with a file.
If that threaded screwlike part is broken off or lost its thread its not worth the effort.
