So what sort of knife do you get for a designer who dresses in black, drives a slick black sports car, has a slick black phone, slick black dog, carries a mac book air in a slick black crumpler case, oh and also happens to be a very skilled woodcarver.
Well first we started with a Strand stripy damascus blade, made up by Mik (Pennillion on british blades) with buffalo handle and now my daughter Jojo has nearly finished the sheath, its just waiting for the right button, we have tried a few options but decided what it needs is something making out of a bit of silver so Nicola is going to talk nicely to her friend Grace in the metalwork and jewelry dept at uni. Anyway here it is so far. Dr Spoon's knife.....
Not sure if makers projects is the right place for it, but wanted to show off Jojo's sheath making, very handy to have a teenage daughter into leatherworking. We have benefited a lot from help on british blades, Tvividr's tutorial in the leatherwork section and some helpful advice on dying when we asked a few days ago. She experimented with a few different finishes but chose linseed oil as Nicola liked the slightly mat soft natural look which contrasted nicely with the shiny buffalo. Jojo had been planning to wrap a piece of silver wire in the groove near the top but in the end decided it looked better without.
