Cant believe its still there ...:D

I can.
Brutal thing to try to dry off, leaks like a sieve in heavy rain if anyone touches the roof…despite all the claims about the waterproofing stuffs. It needs repaired, it's old and probably the thread's are ready to pop, there's no poles (pain in neck to get straight heavy ones for it, though I think there's still a set up our loft) smells of mildew regardless of how careful folks are with them, slugs love slipping underneath the hessian footings (which rot pdq) and it's totally non midge proof as well as weighing a blooming ton and pretty much filling a car boot with it's bag of poles and bag of wooden pegs and lines.
It 'can' be put up by one, very organised and capable, person, but it really needs at least two.

On the plus side, it stands up to the wind very well indeed, it's roomy, it's safe with a stove inside it, and it could probably be reconstructed to make a baker tent.

Sorry, used them for years, but the realities of most people who do not have scout halls for laying out and drying the sodden great thing, means that for most it's totally impractical. We hung ours from the garage roof and even in there it took weeks to dry off properly. The ropes (loops are sewn on) seemed to attract moisture.

Fair comment and the voice of experience :D

But its still a lot of usable tent for the money

Oh it certainly is :D

Actually it's great for what it was intended, it's a great group tent in reasonable weather. It makes a good awning in sunny weather and it makes a really good storage/cook tent if you rig it so that one side is lifted up and open for serving.
They used good canvas to make those, but cotton doesn't last well damp, iimmc. and especially not when it's had UV on it and any mildew.

I could be wrong and the tent is minted and have years of service left in it, but tbh, a decent modern tarp and a decent modern tent beats it hands down and then some.

The Scouts at Windermere have some similar ones set up on wooden platform bases, but they were looking pretty sorry things when I went to the first Bushcraft Show there.

If you don't have suitable spaces for drying & storing these these tents they can, as Mary has said, be problematic. A degree of air movement round and through them helps a great deal. You don't need heat or a gale of wind, but a small fan in the same space noticeably shortens drying times.
Fortunately I have the space, and my two 10' x 8' Icelandics and their custom oversize flysheets remain among my favourite tents, and provide palatial accommodation for Mrs Bilmo & me. They can be a bit of a work-up but are every bit as good, if not better in some respects, than many a more modern design of similar size.

I freely admit that the flysheets make a tremendous difference to using those type of tents in wet weather, and even help provide a draught in hot weather too. If you have the provision to dry all of that though :)
