Hi all,
Looking for a new British bird book. I need it to be small enough to go inside the top pocket of a 30 litre rucksack but with plenty of colour pictures and info. I have larger ones at home, but one is really old (with only drawings, no pictures) and the other covers all of Europe and could be half the size.

So what are you carrying in the field?
Thanks in advance.

I use the RSPB pocket handbook, it has great pictures and other relevant ID information and as it's reasonably slim, it slides easily into my pack. It's not as small as say the Collins gem type book but it is pretty portable.

Another vote for this one. Very good field handbook. The big Collins Bird Guide is the bible on the subject but its not pocket sized. Glyn.
