Birch bark stacked handle??

I recentley got some birch bark squares for a stacked handle of ebay,some are flat and so ive peeled/scraped them to get them ready.
My question is some have raised rough area's where knots have been on the tree,do these need to be flat or do they just need a scraped to remove as much rough as possible?

You may get an answer if you ask in diy and traditional crafts section fella

If i picture what your asking correctly id say they would need scraping and sanding down otherwise you will end up with a gap where it touches the next section

You can try to glue with a pva glue using a light brown paper to a flat board. Board first paper next then your bark then put paper on top with no glue and iron down the glue will dry quickly. Next sand down until flat. Then use the iron and a sharp scraper to remove the bark from the board. if you feel its needed sand the other side to remove any paper it may not be needed if the paper color is close to the same as the bark. Then drill stack and clamp. Hope that helps.

Yeh im thinking these need to be flat,i'll have to sand them..
