Bees Wax - Genuine, uncut, and no chemicals. Do people want?

Hi Folks,
I keep bees. I have a fair few hives and though primarily I keep them for honey and interest I collect bees wax after extracting the honey and other things during the year.
Most of the time I trade it in for new pressed foundation. However I have a few traders who buy/trade for wax from me. As I don't cut my wax with anything chemical wise, and I don't add bulking powders or additives.

All I do with my waz, is literally melt and course sieve it, to extract bits such dead bees (though the odd bit still gets through).

So it occurred to me, some folks might want bees wax for waxing axes heads (stopping rust), leather working, waterproofing etc.

I have never looked at it commercially.. and somewhere I should have some 1oz moulds and I am not out to make lots of money, but the odd penny raised would help me keep my bees and it would be nice to know that it was going to people who were passionate about their hobby and getting used. o

So really this post is just to gauge interest and what peoples views were.

I do make a wood preserver out of it, by mixing in linseed oil, to a set ratio and I use that to treat my hives with. Works wonders as a wood polish too, as long as you don't mind a slight linseed smell for a day or two till its airs. A friend also uses it on his leather tack and armour. The recipe goes back century's. So cannot claim to be doing anything new but its pretty good.

My primary focus has been the honey in the main, but if there was some interest I could look at costs and seeing what was feasible. I won't be doing mega quantities, as I don't have the time, but I get a few kilos or so a year and have a few years worth stacked up in storage at the moment.

Interested to know..what folks views are.

Cheers

John

Gearpac - you do need to be a full member / trader / maker to offer things for sale here. People have certainly bought bee products from me, so I imagine there would be interest - but you need to pay Tony first!

I wouldnt mind a bit. i make cosmetics [creams balms etc]

I normally buy it by the kilo, I presume you dont do that amount. I am just interested in making a cream for myself out proper local ingredeints, so a small amount would do.

Edit I found it worth paying the extra to be able to sell on here BTW.

British Red, of course. I am not looking at it in any commercial basis as such and always happy to support the forum.

Xylaria, get a couple of kilo's a year, sometimes more sometimes less, all depends.

dwardo, that's my current major use, that and making my linseed mix for treating timber and the odd bit of leather.

Somewhere I have some moulds, and will have a look at casting up some blocks and get my membership sorted out so I can legitimately offer them up. Its nice to know there is some interest. Be nice to know its being put to some use.

Cheers

Yes please, its great for finishing my work on the lathe. Plus I run a bit on the bow drill cord to stop it slipping.

I would think on a site like this your stock could vanish in days. I would get yourself paid up as a dealer and treat it as a part time business. I am sure it would be financially worthwhile.
