My wifes footstool which is filled with horrible poly beans, needs refilling. I was thinking of using either straw (like the stuff from pet shop) or stredded paper. Please can anyone tell me if the straw would be suitable. I know it won't be fire retardent but anythings better than poly balls.

The major diffference is weight. That said, my lace making pillow is packed with barley straw and it's as hard as a brick too, so comfort will be a big part in it.
You could stuff it with the contents of a cheap feather (i.e. not high quallity, expensive, down) pillow ?

Sorry not much help. My Grandmother's was stuffed with sawdust and Port Orford cedar shavings packed into a heavy felt inner and then covered. I sat on it often enough, it smelled great, was comfortable, but it weighed a ton !

cheers,
Toddy

My mum used to make us bean bags when we were at school, she used recycled foam pieces which looked like wotsits. No idea where you would buy them from now though, she probably picked them up in the market.
