Looked at this a while, tried to find a similar fungus. There isn’t one as far as I can see, so what is it?

Looks like a cut up kitchen sponge.

This smelly, strange looking fungus is also referred to as octopus stinkhorn or octopus fungus. Its eye-catching red tentacles splay out like a starfish.

Excellent, thanks. I tried every combo of pink, spongy, fungi on Google and got nowhere. What a thing, very Star Trek “don’t touch tha….”. “Oh, too late.”

Yep indeed, beat me to it Chris. As someone whose office was Dartmoor for over 30 years, I live on Dartmoor and on the moor an awful lot, this was the first time I have ever seen it. I had no idea what it was at the time.
