Hi,

Not really bushcrafty but I thought I'd share just a couple of pictures taken at todays re-enactment of the Battle Of Hastings.

We arrived early and had a good look round the enactors campsites - spent far too much time talking to the wonderful people that were more than happy to share their knowledge

Anyhow, here's a few pic's for now. I have some of the tents, camps etc on another memory card - so expect some more, got loads of sheilds, camp fires, tents etc.

I love these types of things.
The Sealed Knot do quite a lot of things locally, I love taking my camera along and getting similar shots.
And of course we hav the Viking society being so close to York

Absolutely great to see something from such a famous battle!
I'm especially interested in heraldry etc. (also design coat of arms myself) -
and since this is one of those battles that got heraldry really started, it really got my firm interest

No, we won because we were far better, and had spurs...
I'm dissapointed that my ancestor's (who played a major role- he was the one who buried Harold at the end on the cliff) banner couldn't be seen.. but at least cousin Billy-Bob was there...

im also gutted, we had to do a food fayre in essex so i couldnt go , did the one in 2000 and that was bloody great

Apologies are expected today from France only days after the 1040th anniversary of the announcement of the final result of the battle of Hastings.

French (well, close enough from Britain's tabloid media point of view)
speaking troops lead by some "Jonny Foreign" type of chap, invaded England on the Sussex coast on the pretext of a promise of a throne.

A pitched battle ensued with no previously agreed Risk Assessment or Judicial Review of this claim to the throne of England.

During the aforementioned battle a nasty accident occurred for which no
compensation has yet been paid, nor has any recompense been made for
the considerable damage done to the beach at Pevensey by the landing
of a flotilla of unregistered boats, which had no state registered
pilot and no navigation aids, and the subsequent disgorging of a large
number of illegal immigrants, descendants of whom still live within
these isles.

To this day, the phrase "careful, you'll have his eye out" has
remained in the English language.
