A visitor message is always a clean and sufficient way to contact those whose mailboxes are filled to the brim, no?
Visitor messages don't show up as needing attention though. Unlike pms and emails. It's also a kind of wake up call
my own, ' Toddy clear your pm box! ' is now three pages long 
We try, we really do, but sometimes it needs posted just to get our attention.
