Hi All,
I am after advice on axe sharpening. In fact it is slightly more then that. I have a Gransfors axe and have managed to get a 2mm nick in the very top of the blade. I would appreciate any advice on the best way of getting it out? I have an axe file and the Gransfor axe sharpening stone.
Many thanks.

Chalk up the file to fill the grooves so that the sharp edges cut more cleanly.
File/joint the edge to just behind the damage. File an entirely new edge.
This is also the recommended procedure from Leonard Lee (Lee Valley Tools).

Yes this is one Hello of a lot of work. I've had to do it several times with $50 - $75 wood carving tools.
I'll look for a low speed (1750rpm) grinder, next time, to do the grunt work.
In the meantime, I've covered some concrete shop floor with carpet.
