Aspen tree?

yep indeed its an aspen (Populus tremula), i always make sure i have some of these in any planting schemes that i do ( if i can get away with it 
)
Brilliant trees for bushcraft and has many medical uses too. a pioneering species like birches, which only lives for between 50 to 100 years. Wildlife love it too from red deer to woodpeckers and of coarse the first thing on the menu for any beaver in the Caledonian area.

It's a marker tree for my proposed campsite for this evening, nice to know I was right all along!

If in doubt look at the leaf stalk, it is flattened side to side which makes it flap side to side in the slightest breeze hence the name tremula.
I'm told it is good for sauna benches, as it doesnt have resin or splinters !! Not something you want on your bare backside !!
Probably the best hearth wood after Lime, for Bow drill friction fire lighting.
