Anyone know if any woods in UK are poisionous to cook over?

laburnum is poisonous but has anybody ever found it growing wild? iv never found it in sussex outside of parks and gardens.

i think cherry laurel and portuguese laurel may be a bit dodgy

All woodsmoke is apparently carcinogenic!

It is but in an outdoors situation you would not inhale in large enough amounts for it to be of any real effect, light a fire in an unventilated room and it would be a different story. For the science minded the gases are Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrous Oxides (NX) and carbon particulates (C).

Thanks for that guys, good link too.

Apparently poplar is not a good one either- very acrid smoke.

I initially also thought yew would be bit nasty but, after a bit of googling there seem to be a lot of people saying that, if it is well seasoned it burns really long, hot and clean. That said, I would still be little bit cautious about cooking straight over it.
