Any CCTV installers capable of advising what is a good entry end CCTV unit?

Are the cheap ones off the likes of Amazon any Good??

I'd like the ability to be able to remotely view ( wifi ) and remotely pan & tilt it. Also Obviously Night Vision is required.

Hikvision stuff every time. Use Poe and you can run cat 5/6. That also allows smaller holes to be drilled through the fabric of the building as you can crimp connectors on after. Don’t waste your money on anything else.

That’s the make. Shop around on prices. You can often find them on eBay at good prices.

Recently got a few off Amazon which are going back. Make sure they support ONVIF. The two I purchased said they did but on install did not.

In short the connection to the cam is propitiatory so if the app dies or the site provider decides to shut up shop your hardware is only fit for the bin.

Tobefair I only want one ( possibly Two ) Cameras and I'm not that bothered about a Recorder. certainly don't want to be thinking about dropping nearly £1K on it all.

But do the cheaper end of the spectrum work or not?

Get the new lowlight colour high def zoom ip adressed cameras if you are buying one. Basically cctv as far as i can make out is an industry that just continuess to update its equipment. From 2 black and white low def analogue frames a second onto a vcr to todays stuff, ripping out old and putting in new, question is what do you want ? Zoom, night vision, high def I cannot see what theyll do next.

Just get nest cameras or similar if thats all you need (but I suspect you will have monthly subscription to the cloud with it)?

I have been installing CCTV, analogue and IP for the past 10 years, the lower price stuff from amazon is generally poor, both for image quality, longevity and user friendliness. I would definitely go for IP CCTV myself, with POE (power over ethernet) for the faster easier installation and image quality, plus cat5e can be cheaper than the RG59 coax and separate power cable, and Hik-vision is my preferred brand, but they do have a lower priced brand called Hilook or hiwatch depending on the seller, which is, as far as I am aware, the last generation technology, so it should work well. If you want something cheaper, you could get Dahua, and if you don't mind lack of support a lot cheaper from the likes of aliexpress. Generally I would recommend getting an NVR (network video recorder) to save the video stream from the cameras, but most Hik-vision cameras will hold a micro sd card to store footage, just be sure to mount the camera high enough to deter someone from stealing it.
PTZ cameras, of decent quality start at around £350, and you may require a specialist keyboard to program it, which could be an extra £200.
That being said, someone I know swears by something like This but I have never set one up or used it.
There is also Spro, basic but very reliable in my experience, but only available to trade unless you want to pay a hefty markup from a third party.

I went for this unit in the end. I may look at selling on the other two cameras as only need Two.
