Now ive seen wood ants nests before but i've never seen anthills of this size, or ammount. When i first saw the field i assumed it was the victim of moles, but it was infact ants.

Red ants that where very small, in nests completley constructed by them out of soil. The red bits are clusters of ants, not the best resolution

I'm fortunate to see these on the site I look after, new and old nests which grow quite large are SSSI protected.
