The berries can be used to make jam - they must be cooked before eaten!. But the plant is otherwise poisonous.

Mmm... my own database suggests otherwise 
The Guelder Rose berries are 'mildly' toxic when raw and are eaten raw in many European countries (you'd have to eat a lot to have serious symptoms) but the plant has many medicinal uses. The bark is used as a treatment for cramp (hence one of its names - 'cramp bark'). It is one of only two native British viburnum shrubs and was used in prehistoric times for arrows and more recently for skewers and pipe stems.
