Hi there the other day when iwas mucking around with my firesteel i instead of using the striker ,gave it a try with the blade edge of my mora.
I got some great sparks of it, is it ok to do this before i go do it some more?

As Dougster says, you will knacker the edge somewhat. Why not file the spine flat to give you a nice 90 degree angle and use that. Works great for me and doesn't damage the working bit.

With my Frosts Mora I get a really good spark at the pointed end of the spine of the blade, but I've filed mine as well.

Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
never use the working edge of a knife to strike sparks from a fire steel- as already stated it's the quickest way to ruin your knife.
only use the back or top of the blade, have you got R.M.'s bushcraft survival dvd's? one of the tutorials regarding fire lighting is particularly good and shows the exact same way I was shown donkeys years ago now, using the back of the last inch and a half or so of the blade towards the tip, with your thumb as the driver.

with the mora you will need to grind an edge on the back, but watch your fingers when practising!

Kind regards
R.B.
