Hi there! I was away for a long time. Tell you all about it a bit later. Now I want to share my latest project with you.

I found this axe head at antique seller and bought it for pennies.

Straight away it reminded me of GB Hunter, so without a lot of thinking I made it a new handle out of lime.

Any ideas where it could have been made? No makers mark or anything... How do you like it?

Somehow I don't wanna think that the notch was intended to be used as a nail puller. Perhaps to secure some metal traps with it? Or wire work?

I reshaped the edge and the pole with a grinding stone and then I took the rust off with edge grinder. There is a special bit for it. Sounds simple but it took me 4 hours start to finish (without the handle), it's very easy to get the rust off, but to get the head in shape you want is quite different... Best of luck, and let us know how you get on ;)

I got this at a while back and this thread made me dig it out again, I was curious about the nick in it, I plan to remove the bloom on the back of it, and de-rust it...

Today I has a chanse to make a sheath for this axe. I got some really thick leather from my friend knife maker and that's officially my first leather work ! :D

As you can see, edges needs some attention, but that's where my lack of experience stops me before I do something stupid. So what do you do to it finish up ?

hmm

Normally when making a sheaf like that, there is a third layer of leather along the rivet line - so that the edge of the axe can't come into contact with the rivets.

Neat work tho'

Yes, that was a problem, because that's very thick leather and with 3 layers my rivets were too short, so I took a gamble and wen this way. Next time, 3 layers and stiching ;)

hello milius2, one way to solve this problem. is to used brass nails on one side then insert your 3 pieces of leather ,then on the other side use the aluminium ring with the holes as in your pictures as a back holder then pinned everything together, sorry I don't have a pc otherwise I would have taken a picture for you, how I done it on mine, now I would like to have a go one day. I like the way you carved that handle. shame you so far away. cheers the interceptor boy. I hope you understand what I am trying to tell you, like a sandwich.
