Naturally for a ruff, the longer hair the better the result is. Wolverine followed by wolf would be ideal but hard and expensive to purchase (from Canada, Scandinavia, Finland or Russia). Tanned red fox pelts are commonly available in Finland for around £20-30 each directly from the hunters. Raccoon dog will fetch about the same price. If you can, buy only the tail since it is usually large enough and has longer hair than the rest of the body.

Joking aside, the raccoon dog or Nyctereutes procyonoides is a fine fur animal introduced to European Russia where it has spread to Finland. It is a pest here and licenses are easy to procure.

have a look at fur source.com its the same company that sells fur hats in canada and has a good rep ,i can vouch for them as i bought a sheepsking trapper hat off them last year with no probs ! just scroll down the first page to fur plates and trim ,i think i saw some beaver and racoon collar trims for about £ 24 or so.

I wasn't joking. I'd never heard of it. And true racoons are related to bears rather than canines so I thought you were either referring to coonhounds or mistakenlt naming coons as a canine.

Aren't there loads of wild mink in the UK that need controlling? They were introduced for fur so it should be good

Just look on Ebay for a Fox Stole, there's a few vintage ones at a decent price on there.
My mother recently gave my wife a fox stole for a costume my wife was making, nice bit of fur that was killed so long ago that selling it won't make any difference now.

Even Mink Stoles can be fairly cheap on Ebay by the looks of it.

An ex girlfriend of mine from years ago had a few charity shop fake furs, didn't own a single real fur.
Anyway, one day some deluded individual asked how she felt about animals having to die to make her coat, she being very sharp witted and not particularly shy either told the person that she didn't care a bit that 'A hundred nylons died to make the coat'.

I've used House De Clifford.

They are specialist furriers and theyv'e sorted me out in the past with a Coyote back to make into a fur ruffe for my snow smock. All sorts of furs, look no futher.

If you google "Furriers", lots of results come up too.

Coyote is good, better than synthetic fur and I found it quick drying. If you want the best, Wolverine is the one but its hugely expensive and probably overkill.

The centre section of the Coyote back is ideal.
