My nan recently passed away, and whilst clearing her shed out I found a aluminium cup from a ex army water bottle that would been my grandads,it had some rusty nuts/bolts in it,that had been sat in oil.
now I'm wondering if it's possible to clean it so it's safe to use for food/drinks again,
I have tipped the oil/fittings out and have it upside down draining out.

Well. I've cleaned it twice and it's shiny looking, but does still hum of oil so will try the bicarbonate suggestion, many thanks for the help,it will be nice to use something of my grandads ,that would have been thrown away,
though god knows how many years those fittings have been soaking away in there.

Another one is Vinagar, the stuff they use in chip shops is ideal I saw it used at a industrial unit recently for clearing off some really old oil / grease from a crack shaft of some description.
