Robson, I forgot to answer your question. I think you're much more knowledgeable on finishes than I am. I'm just using walnut oil. I plan to get some flax seed oil to try as well. I know you've mentioned a treatment process involving heat. I haven't tried that yet, but I like the idea. At this point I just put on a few coats at room temp.

The real advantage with the 325F heat treatment is that the oil gets sucked into the wood as it cools.
Then, not even boiling soup can push the oil out to be replaced by soup. Charles' Law is the rule of the game.
I know it always runs the risk of cracking but 3:30 isn't a long time until you're watching the clock!
