I just bought this folding secateur pruner (from wellington03 on BB) which was made in the 1950s in Sheffield by Ibbersons. It is superb - not only beautiful to look at, but a fantastic bit of engineering - the way the secateurs clip in and fold out is quite miraculous.

Now that I like. I use a Leatherman Vista (which has secateurs instead of pliers), but I'd rather have that!

Part of the reason that old tools seem much better than modern ones is because the good tools last and so any old tool will be a one thats been treaured because it was good.

Theres loads of old tools that were fairly crap but because they are crap nobody looks after them and hand them onto their kids.

Having said that, theres some old tools that I have that are beautifull to hold and use.

Ones just a set of pincers that are really well designed and fit the hand well, always the first set of pincers I look for in my box and another is a set of dividers that one of my brothers gave me and he got from an old blacksmith if I remember right.

Really well made and another one of those tools that is just right.
