So I tried making a basket and stumbled across the 'need' for a horn tallow holder to dip my bodkin in.

A look on the bay showed up a few sailors grease horns going for hundreds of pounds. Well I suppose I better make one!!

One filed and one to do.

Shaped for leather thong hanger, scraped with gouge and a wee bit scratchy/feely stuff to personalise (I won't use the scrimshaw word as it might incur the wrath of real scrimers!!)

Thanks for looking.

Hurrah! I am branching out into horn. (And antler)

Im not sure what to call it either; Ive read it described as scrimshaw but I wouldnt myself.

Tengu. I read that scrimshaw is a maritime pursuit but not sure what lan dound following is called. I'm being reserved with my 'scratchings' as they're far from scrimshaw!!! The word rustic comes to mind again:)
