I haven't been out properly for months as it's been such a shock to the system having a job so I went out tonight to try out the fire steel my dad got me for christmas and for a bit of a cook up, a brew and a biscuit.

Wasn't sure what to use as tinder so I made some pine shavings and used my frying pan to catch them.

I put them on a big piece of birch bark and got them ignited after about ten strikes of my ferro rod :)

Decided to try a star fire as I've heard they're good for cooking on and don't use much wood

Beans took a little longer than usual but considering how little wood I used I'd definitely use this type of fire again.

Hot choccy and biscuits for dessert, ready just as darkness fell.

is it safe to cook the beans in the tin? i've been told that the tin has a lining on the inside that melts and goes in your food. if i've got it all wrong please correct me, it would be soo much easier to cook straight from the tin.
