A day off & the sun is shining even if its a little cold (pond frozen). Had to do 'stuff' in the morning but got there & lit a fire by 1:00pm.
View of the camping field from the established fire area
Lovely, settled in to have some fun
My tried & tested 'free' 12 pint water carrier, and on the right an experiment with a 'free' collapsible billy. I brought a pint of very cold water to a good boil. Repeated this another 2 times - it sprang a small leak on the 3rd boil I think because I allowed the flames to get too high.
Worth having one of these around (with a sachet of choice in it) ?
While the water was heating i wandered over to an Ash that must have come down in the recent storms. Lots of possible uses! Maybe even a few bow stave's
I thought the low sun might show off my recent carving quite well
All done since Last October apart from 2 older ones that sneaked into the bag somehow.
From the left
3 eating spoons 2 willow 1 birch
2 cooking spoons cherry & birch
2 spatulas birch & cherry
1 Aspen spoon
A chestnut dough hook
A large holly spoon
Time for a hearty snack
Eggs Salami with hazelnuts and homemade bread.
As I baked last night I didn't do my usual bannock
I used the large kettle as it was possible someone else would arrive it being a nice day & all
Suitably fortified I sat by the fire carving a piece of ash I brought with me.
Time flies when your having fun & the sun suddenly disappeared (still short days)
A Quick snap of how far I got
then It was time to pack up & go.
A good few hours out by the fire
& a pretty good end as well
This was a the bushcraft magazine site where they hold the Mayday Meet. (I declare a connection)
When I got home the pond was still frozen
