4x4m polycotton tarp

  • The awesome MakerMoot is coming up (13-15th Nov 2026), Visit the TORM & ARM markets, and have space back at camp to work on projects and enjoy great company. PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
It's a tad too big and not square, yes it is quite expensive.
I've got the other two Tatonka tarps and they are really good. If one came up second hand I'd get it and make it square.

Same as original question really, digging up an old thread. Spark resistant please.
Tatonka seem to be hard to get. But look decent. I've found one on Am£#on but I won't give them the steam from my faeces.
There's a Roben's but it doesn't have as many tie outs.
Don't want plastic or DD, I've got plenty of those.
Any ideas gratefully received ta

That's a great looking bit of kit for a reasonable price.
I'm looking for tan/beige ideally. Darker colours really suck the light. I'm using it as a group shelter for carving sessions. Should have said.

thanks for the replies
There’s a parachute for sale on the forum if you’ve seen it, might do a job of work.

4x4m in polycotton is a proper beast of a tarp, but absolute luxury if you’re setting up a fixed basecamp or working close to a campfire. Finding that exact 4x4 size off-the-shelf in TC (technical cotton) or lightweight canvas is surprisingly tricky, though most standard outdoor brands like Tatonka or Robens usually max out around 3x3m or 4x3m.

A while back when I was hunting around for a heavier-duty shelter setup, I spent ages digging through gear suppliers like * :ban: :spam2:* and various canvas stockists trying to see if anyone did a ready-made 4x4 polycotton that didn't weigh a ton.

If you don't find a off-the-shelf option, your best bet might be contacting a small custom outdoor gear maker (or even buying a roll of breathable polycotton/ripstop TC fabric and stitching on reinforced webbing loops yourself if you have access to a heavy-duty machine).

Out of interest, are you setting this up for group cover or solo winter camping? If pack weight isn't a huge factor, it's well worth the effort nothing beats polycotton for dampening wind noise and resisting rogue embers.
