after a search around i wondered if anyone, sad ;) as me, had actually found out the life in hours of a 440 gram gas canister?

if not, i propose to do it with a brand new can, an MSR pocket rocket on full bore and a set of scales so you can tell how much life there is in a half, 1/4 full or half empty can.
i'm thinking 30 min bursts and then a measurement

can anyone see a problem with this?or a solution?

gas cans i have are coleman 500 70% butane 30% propane 440 gram.

this is where someone googles it and posts a link
 :)

The problems I can forsee could be, Temperature makes a big difference to the effectiveness and lifespan of the canisters as does altitude.
The other variable could be the movement of the canisters, I have shook an empty canister to get a little bit more life from them so it does affect them.
The temperature affects them (esp butane) to the degree that I have had about five minutes life from a full canister, when I really needed it!So I don't use butane any more.
There may be some research from Everest expeditions as I believe they used standard bluet stoves with propane butane mix on the '75 expedition, they apparently couldn't get propane/butane in Britain at the time(illegal, too explosive!) and had to import/collect from France.
But good luck with the research.
