Just got back from great trip to Scotland. Weather was good if a bit hot for backpacking but no rain at all. Forestry Commission woodlands behind town very good, especially if using a hammock system. I was ground-dwelling and had no problems, not even any midges, a few little moths but that was it. There is a council-owned and run caravan/camping site just in front of the woods (Barhill Woods) and they are good for getting water, as long as you ask first. All locals were very friendly. If you have never wild camped in Scotland I thoroughly recommend it. Unfortunately I don't have permission to attach any pics, sorry!
