1st snow??

I went to the local hill after work with the boys today, we've only got one sledge - a nasty cheap plastic thing bought from the garage a number of years ago when we had a smattering of snow which has sat in the shed since, it is now cracked and falling apart and we'll be lucky to get another few days out of it - anyway 2nd son thought of the bright idea of taking his body board to the hill, by god does that thing steam down the hill, so much so he couldn't stop and smacked right into a fence at the bottom 
a premature end to the sledging and a fair bruised side and back, but he seems happy enough, tattie pie, hot chocolate and a couple of chocolate bars later and he felt a lot better.
The meanest sledge I saw was when I was young, a couple of lads got a car bonnet, at one point there were four of them on it going over jumps on a golf course slope. That thing was dangerous and had a habit of wanting to flip over when airbourne.

A Morris Minor bonnet was one of the finest 4 man bobsleds we ever had as kids. Completely lethal of course and a swine to get back to the top again, but such fun.
I spotted a daffodil about to flower yesterday, but today in mid-Wales, the Beast from the (North) East v2.0 has definitely got its claws into us again. A fair dump of snow forecast overnight and due to carry on snowing for most of the day.
I went out in the Landy to see what the lane was like and with a 4-6” covering in most places it’s passable with care in a 4x4 but drifts of up to 2’ and growing in some places combined with some steep slopes means that we are likely to be cut off again.
All good fun but I was ready for some of that spring sunshine!

Yeah enough with the snow now please. I have things I need to be getting done outside. I think the garden plants that only just survived the last lot will be finished off now too

The pug got a kiss on the dash and a smack on the rump, bless her! Six in the morning snow still falling she got me home, was kind of exciting sliding on some of the hills and not being sure how far I would get!
I hope this is the last snow this time 
Earlier I was sat in the sun watching the first baby sparrow on the bird table and enjoying spring but now it's back to snow again. I'm ready for some warmth now. I've doing some timber work in the garden this weekend and it's been borderline too cold for the gorilla glue to flow. The bottle says it works down to 4° and it hasnt got above that even with the sun out.

We're supposed to get heavy snow tomorrow, and there are flurries already.
I was enjoying the bright green appearing again, watching the birds flittering and flirting away, keeping an eye on where they were going with the beakfuls of moss and the like. I've got one shed redd out and I had hoped to get the greenhouse cleared.
Not much chance of that this week methinks.
All the early foraging'll be covered in the frozen white stuff again.
I'm fed up with it now.

The BBC got the forecast totally wrong for this weekend again. They might as well go back to casting runes and reading entrails with the success rate they've had recently.
I tend not to listen to the forecasts, as they are all usually pretty rubbish for my area. It can be completely different 5 miles down the road, a bright sunny day vs blizzard conditions different. Best to just look out the window, and make sure you've got a shovel and foul weather gear in the car...
The new service provided by MeteoGroup is abysmal; they can barely tell us what the weather is doing now! The old service (Met Office) was usually pretty good for two or three days. I really don't see the point in paying for a service that is so totally inaccurate!
Grumble over
Over here where I am on the Colonial side of the pond we are back into winter. The weather forecasters only caught it 12 hours before hand and still got it wrong with the extent of area hit. Much bigger than they thought. Some roads are closed due to visibility and car accidents.
Himself was listening to the radio at lunchtime. He said that it was reckoned (by hillfarmers, etc.,) that Spring was five weeks behind.
I know our grass isn't growing yet, and usually by now it needs it's first cut. I have Spring bulbs flowering but everything else seems to be on hold. There are no leaves on our beech hedge and the birches are still asleep too.
It has sleeted all day long here. It's miserable outside.

This spring is certainly limping along very slowly. 2° outside right now and feels colder in the wind. Still patches of snow lingering about too. Still the extra light in the evenings is very welcome and having more time outside is always good. I've given up hope of a spring flower display in the garden as the early stuff got battered by the snow and the rest have all the vigour of a damp firework. The bulbs I planted in the autumn have spent so long frozen this year that they've got no vigour to flower. I need to crush some viagra up in the watering cans I think.
